"Uma intenção nua orientada para Deus... Se quiseres esta intenção resumida numa palavra... toma uma palavra breve... prende bem esta palavra ao teu coração, de modo que esteja sempre lá, venha o que vier. (...) Com esta palavra suprimirás todo o pensamento sob a nuvem do esquecimento. Tanto assim que, se alguma vez estiveres tentado a pensar o que é que é aquilo que estás a procurar, esta palavra única será suficiente resposta. E se continuares a querer pensar eruditamente sobre a significação e a análise dessa mesma palavra, diz a ti mesmo que a queres ter inteira, e não em bocados ou peças.


"A naked intention directed to God... If you want this intention summed up in a word, ...take a short word... fix this word fast to your heart, so that it is always there come what may. (...) With this word you will suppress all thought under the cloud of forgetting. So much so that if ever you are tempted to think what it is that you are seeking, this one word will be sufficient answer.
